Whether he’s navigating the details of a Medicare cost report, assisting with a hospital audit, or tackling a challenging accounting issue, Adonys Perez enjoys finding solutions that help clients move forward with confidence. As a Senior Accountant at DZA, he brings a thoughtful, analytical approach to every engagement, while still making client service his top priority.
In his role, Adonys plans and completes audit and Medicare reimbursement projects, including Medicare cost reports, and works closely with DZA’s Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) team on DSH survey applications. The variety of his work is one of the reasons he enjoys accounting so much.
“I like that every week looks a little different,” Adonys says. “You’re always working with a different mix of projects, clients, and peers.”
That curiosity has helped him develop expertise in accounts receivable and allowance reviews, as well as property and right-of-use asset corrections. To stay ahead of changes in the healthcare accounting industry, he regularly participates in webinars and continuing education, ensuring clients receive guidance that’s both current and reliable.
Finding the Right Fit
Accounting wasn’t always part of Adonys’ plan. Growing up, he imagined becoming an astronomer or a doctor. It wasn’t until he enrolled in accounting courses at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas that he discovered a career that perfectly matched his strengths.
“The professors were great, and I realized accounting was something I was good at,” he says.
That realization led him to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Business Accounting and a Master of Science in Accounting. Completing his master’s degree while working full-time remains one of his proudest accomplishments and reflects the dedication he brings to both his professional growth and his clients.
One career milestone that stands out to Adonys is helping complete a new DZA client’s financial statement during the client’s first year of audits. First-year audits are often more complex, and he enjoys both the challenge and the rewarding outcome.
“Being part of a first-year audit and seeing that project come together was incredibly rewarding.”
Putting Clients First
At DZA, Adonys believes every client interaction is an opportunity to demonstrate the firm’s commitment to excellence.
“When communicating with clients, I always want our priority of excellent client service to come through.”
He also appreciates that DZA’s independence allows the firm to focus on building long-term relationships instead of simply chasing growth.
“Being independently owned means we have flexibility. We don’t have to adhere to the same business practices that large publicly-owned companies have to, removing individual needs. That balance allows us to provide better service while maintaining a healthy work environment.”
Outside of client work, Adonys enjoys participating in DZA’s community service efforts, including local river cleanups. For him, giving back is an important way to invest in a stronger, healthier future for the communities DZA serves.
Outside the Office
Originally from Las Vegas, Adonys moved to Spokane to experience somewhere new and explore everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
When he’s away from the office, you’ll usually find him staying active at the gym, camping whenever he gets the chance, playing video games with friends, spending time with his cats, or picking up one of his favorite string instruments.
A quote that has stayed with him over the years is: “If you’re going to give someone flowers, you better do it before they wither away and die.”
Whether he’s solving a complex reimbursement question or helping a client navigate an audit, Adonys enjoys tackling challenges head-on and delivering thoughtful solutions that help organizations succeed.
