Bryce Schimke is a Senior Accountant at DZA with nearly six years of experience at the firm, including his time as an intern. Working primarily with Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs), with the occasional Prospective Payment System (PPS) hospital added to the mix, Bryce supports healthcare organizations across a wide range of accounting and reimbursement needs. His work spans cost reports, audits, Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) reimbursement, and employee benefit plan audits, giving him a well‑rounded perspective on the financial challenges healthcare providers face.

What Bryce enjoys most about his role is the variety. Rather than focusing on just one niche, he values being able to help clients in many different ways and prides himself on building strong, collaborative relationships. For Bryce, every project is memorable, with each one bringing its own complexities and opportunities to provide meaningful support.

A Career That Started Early

Bryce’s interest in accounting began back in sixth grade. Inspired by his grandfather, a successful tax accountant in Seattle, Bryce admired the stability and sense of security the profession provided. That early interest turned into a clear career path, one he’s pursued with consistency and enthusiasm ever since.

His professional journey at DZA began with an internship, encouraged by a friend (now coworker) who spoke highly of the opportunity. That internship quickly grew into a full‑time role and, eventually, his current position as Senior Accountant. Bryce appreciates that accounting is a profession with lasting demand and clear growth opportunities, allowing him to build a career that’s both fulfilling and dependable.

Growing Expertise and Continuous Learning

While Bryce doesn’t consider himself narrowly specialized, his broad experience is a strength. “I try to be as neutral as possible on projects, because I like doing everything. Each project creates its own sense of fulfillment.”

Staying current is important to him, and he invests heavily in professional development through continuing professional education (CPE), DZA’s in‑house trainings, LumiQ podcasts, DSH webinars, AuditWatch, and industry conferences, including a recent HFMA conference in Spokane.

This commitment to learning helps Bryce stay informed on industry changes and ensures clients benefit from up‑to‑date knowledge and thoughtful guidance.

Life at DZA

For Bryce, DZA’s independently owned and operated structure shows up in the firm’s culture and the way people work together. He describes DZA’s culture as its standout trait, a balance of high‑quality client service with family time and genuine camaraderie.

From monthly trivia nights and pod meetups to happy hours, sporting events, and regular team check‑ins, Bryce values the many opportunities DZA provides for connection and collaboration. He believes this culture not only supports employees, but also translates into better outcomes for clients.

Outside the Office

Outside of work, Bryce is an avid golfer. Living next to a golf course only fueled his passion, which began after a DZA golfing event. Since then, he’s been all in, taking lessons and spending much of his free time refining his game.

Family time is equally important. Bryce and his wife, Mariah, have been together since they were 15. They recently welcomed their son, Graham, who is now about a year and a half old. The family enjoys walks and hikes with their black tri-Australian shepherd, trips to the park, and visits to Barnes & Noble, where Graham loves being read to.

Bryce is also a dedicated football fan and proudly supports the Pittsburgh Steelers, even while living in Seahawks territory.

A Client‑First Mindset

Bryce brings a steady, thoughtful approach to every engagement, driven by a genuine desire to help clients navigate complex challenges. His broad experience, commitment to continuous learning, and strong connection to both his team and community reflect the values DZA strives to deliver every day.

Fun Fact

When Bryce is not hard at work, he is busy maintaining two undefeated streaks. He proudly claims, “I’m the greatest (unofficial) corn hole player of all time. I have never lost. I’m also the (self-proclaimed) employee of the month for 72 months running.”
