Finding the Right Path
John didn’t expect to become an accountant until after college. After changing his college major three times, he graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Shortly after graduation, a family member shared an accounting job opportunity that sparked his interest. Remembering how much he had enjoyed his accounting and finance classes, John decided to pursue a new direction.
Today, he’s working toward a master’s degree in Accounting and Taxation while studying for the CPA exam, continuing to build the expertise that benefits DZA’s clients every day.
Supporting Healthcare Organizations
As a Senior Accountant, John primarily works on hospital financial statement audits, Medicare Cost Reports, and Employee Benefit Plan audits. He enjoys the variety and complexity of the work, appreciating that each engagement presents opportunities to strengthen his knowledge, while also helping clients meet important financial reporting and compliance requirements.
One of the most rewarding parts of his career has been seeing how much he’s grown since joining DZA.

That mindset of continuous improvement drives John to stay current with industry changes by learning from experienced colleagues at DZA and engaging with professors in his graduate program, whose backgrounds span a wide range of accounting specialties.

Life Outside the Office
When he’s not working with clients or studying for graduate school, John enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Almendra, and their Australian Shepherd puppy, Luna.
Whether he’s traveling to new places, learning about different cultures, jogging, swimming, or relaxing at the park with his family, John enjoys making the most of his time outside. He also enjoys spending a quiet evening at home cooking with his family and trying new recipes.
Giving Back to the Community
Community service is also an important part of John’s life. He enjoys volunteering at a local food bank, helping pack and distribute food to families in need.
His passion for giving back comes from personal experience.
“I grew up with friends whose families relied on food banks,” John shares. “It warms my heart to help those with similar needs.”
