A Trusted Partner for Hospitals
In his role as Manager, Brennan works closely with governmental and not-for-profit hospitals across the country, providing financial statement audits, Medicare cost reporting, and a wide range of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement consulting services. His work also includes state Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) reimbursement consulting for multiple states, as well as providing information technology support to the firm.
What Brennan enjoys most about his work is seeing the direct impact it has on clients. Whether it’s helping hospitals improve their Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement or strengthening internal processes through financial statement audits, he finds it rewarding to know his work contributes to organizations being able to better serve their communities.
A Foundation Built on Curiosity and Growth
Brennan’s path to accounting began in college, when an introductory business course showed him how accounting serves as the foundation for how organizations operate. Although he initially explored engineering and political science, it was accounting that ultimately captured his interest, with its intersection of strategy, operations, and financial performance.
After studying at Spokane Falls Community College and later earning his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Washington State University, Brennan joined DZA and quickly pursued his CPA license, earning it just two years into his career. It remains one of his proudest professional accomplishments.
Specialized Expertise in Healthcare Reimbursement
Brennan specializes in financial statement audits and Medicare cost reporting for Critical Access Hospitals, along with state Medicaid DSH reporting. These are highly technical, ever-changing areas of healthcare finance, and Brennan stays current by closely monitoring guidance from state agencies and updates from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
This dedication to staying informed allows him to provide clients with timely, accurate, and actionable advice, helping them navigate complex reimbursement environments with confidence.
Living DZA’s Values Every Day
As part of an independently owned and operated firm, Brennan appreciates DZA’s ability to move quickly, adapt to changes in the healthcare and regulatory environment, and adopt new technologies that improve efficiency and outcomes for clients. That agility, he believes, translates into better service and stronger client relationships.
One of DZA’s core values that resonates most with Brennan is empathy. In his day-to-day work, he makes a point of putting himself in clients’ shoes so he can better understand their challenges and provide practical, meaningful solutions.
Rooted in the Spokane Community
A Spokane native, Brennan has spent nearly his entire life in the area, aside from two years in Pullman while attending Washington State University. He enjoys the balance Spokane offers—a vibrant community with concerts and sporting events, paired with easy access to the outdoors for hiking, camping, and disc golfing.
Family is also an important part of Brennan’s life. He is close with his parents, Brian and Faith, and his younger siblings, Jeremy, Tory, and Sandra, all of whom live in the Spokane area. When he’s not working, you might also find him tending to his seven backyard chickens.
Brennan is passionate about keeping Spokane’s outdoor spaces beautiful, and regularly participates in litter cleanups, finding satisfaction in giving back to the community he calls home.
