As a founding owner of DZA, Luke Zarecor’s path to ownership was shaped by a natural passion for business combined with a deep desire to make an impact in the healthcare industry. He now leads DZA with purpose and vision, having accomplished a dream that was years in the making.
Zarecor holds many vital roles as an owner of DZA, from leading audits to collaborating on Medicare cost reports and feasibility studies. However, what makes his role truly rewarding is the opportunity to work closely with both clients and colleagues.
“I love the variety in my job,” says Zarecor. “In the same day, I can be solving problems for clients across the West, reviewing work with our team, and helping both clients and staff achieve their goals.”
Luke Zarecor also serves as the firm’s human resources partner, playing a crucial role in talent acquisition to ensure DZA continues to grow with the right people.
Though Zarecor didn’t initially set out to be an accountant, his path took an unexpected turn.
“Accounting chose me,” Zarecor explains. “It was a natural fit. I discovered that I liked the logic of accounting in my first business courses.”
What drew Zarecor to the profession, and healthcare accounting specifically, was the combination of detail and impact. “I was attracted to how vital healthcare is in people’s lives—from births to accidents and illness—and the way it impacts rural economies. I wanted to be a part of helping healthcare organizations thrive in those roles,” he explains.
Zarecor knew early on that he wanted to own his own company, and specializing in healthcare accounting became the end goal.
One of the most fulfilling aspects of Zarecor’s work is being involved in projects that directly improve communities. “Helping a client secure financing to build a new hospital is always exciting. Watching the care improve and seeing the local economy benefit is incredibly satisfying,” he explains.
