At DZA, we believe that our people are our greatest strength, and Shayna DesJardin exemplifies that belief every day. With a strong foundation in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement consulting, Shayna is not only a leader on her team, but also a trusted resource for her clients and a vibrant member of our firm’s culture.

“My goal is always to be their first call.”

Shayna serves as a Senior Manager, where she guides her team while managing the complex needs of clients navigating Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement. Whether she’s fine-tuning cost reports or offering strategic insight, her goal is always the same: to be the first person clients call when they think of DZA.

“I enjoy building relationships and being a resource for my clients,” Shayna shares. “That’s what I want people to think of when they think of DZA, us being right there when they need us.”

Finding Her Way to Accounting

Shayna’s path to public accounting began uniquely. Before joining DZA, she managed two therapy clinics while pursuing her college degree. Though initially hesitant thanks to a less-than-ideal college accounting professor, Shayna gave it another try and found her niche.

“Like many accountants, I knew one who had a stable and successful life. That inspired me. After some time away, I gave it another shot, and it clicked.”

Staying Ahead in a Changing Field

The constantly shifting landscape of healthcare reimbursement keeps Shayna on her toes. She spends several hours a week researching changes and trends, ensuring her knowledge is current and actionable.

“Things are always changing, especially with Medicare and Medicaid. It’s a hot space, and staying informed is essential.”

Culture That Sticks

Shayna knew early on she wanted to work at a firm that truly valued its people, and she found that in DZA.

“DZA’s culture puts its people first. They are our greatest assets. I’ve witnessed many instances over the years of DZA supporting their employees, and it’s what makes me stay.”

As a team member at an independently owned firm, Shayna appreciates the culture of trust, flexibility, and genuine care. These values guide how she serves clients and leads her team.

Life Outside the Office

Shayna currently lives in Kennewick, Washington, where she enjoys the friendliness of the community. Originally from Port Angeles, Washington, she moved to Spokane to complete her accounting degree and build her career, and later moved to Kennewick for her husband’s job.

Her educational path reflects her tenacity and versatility. Shayna graduated high school with an associate degree from Peninsula College, earned a bachelor’s in business management while working as a hairstylist, and finished her fifth year of accounting coursework at Whitworth University.

At home, life is full of joy and energy with her husband and their spirited four-year-old, affectionately referred to as her “little stinker.” Outside of work, she enjoys yard work, cooking, walks, swimming, and more recently, boating.

“Right now, my favorite hobby is definitely that four-year-old stinker,” she laughs.

A Heart for Community

Shayna is also committed to giving back. As a member of her local Elks Club, she supports fundraising efforts and community initiatives to support veterans, youth programs, and community development projects.

“What motivates me is the sense of connection and community that comes from helping others,” she shares.

A Few Fun Facts

There’s one thing most people don’t know about Shayna, and we’d be remiss not to share it:

“My dad was a clown shoemaker, and we attended clown conventions growing up. I was known as Rosey.”

Needless to say, her childhood gave her a unique perspective on performance, humor, and standing out, a mindset that still comes through in her work today.

Her favorite quote? “Fake it ‘til you become it.”

“I don’t just want to make it. I want it to be who I am,” Shayna shares. At DZA, we’re proud to have Shayna as a leader, expert, and team member. Her drive, compassion, and sense of humor remind us that great accounting isn’t just about the numbers, it’s about the people behind them.
