As a Senior Accountant at DZA, Charli Cozza plays a key role in supporting healthcare organizations through cost report preparation and consulting, audit work, and supporting the Mini-MCR program alongside Catherine Bauman. Her work blends technical expertise with something equally important to her: building meaningful relationships with clients.
One of Charli’s favorite parts of her role is being part of the Mini-MCR team. She values how the tool helps clients stay informed year-round. She also appreciates the opportunity it creates to connect more frequently with hospital leadership, including meeting new clients she might not otherwise work with. For Charli, those ongoing touchpoints make the work especially rewarding.
Mini-MCRs are custom tools built from a client’s finalized prior-year Medicare cost report. By entering current-year data, clients can estimate their projected Medicare settlement to support monthly financial reporting and, in some cases, use it instead of an interim cost report for Medicare intermediaries.
In the ever-evolving healthcare financial world, Charli is grateful for DZA’s commitment to continuing education and professional development. She credits the firm’s support and training opportunities to helping her grow as an accountant and stay current on industry changes, an investment that directly benefits the clients she serves.
A recent professional milestone Charli is particularly proud of was speaking at two Montana HFMA seminars last year. She represented DZA at these events, sharing insights with peers across the region. “I’m so grateful to Shar Sheaffer for encouraging me to push myself outside of my comfort zone and trusting me to represent DZA at these events. I appreciate that DZA prioritizes continual growth,” Charli says.
Life at DZA
For Charli, what truly sets DZA apart is its people-first culture. She appreciates that the firm genuinely cares about employee well-being—encouraging time off, offering schedule flexibility, and supporting a healthy work-life balance. From lunch gatherings and trivia to local sporting events, DZA makes a point to foster connection and keep the workplace fun and welcoming.
Outside the Office
Charli lives in Post Falls, Idaho, where she enjoys being just minutes from two of her favorite outdoor escapes: Spirit Lake and the Coeur d’Alene River. When she’s not working, you’ll likely find her camping, reading, cooking, tackling puzzles, or attending concerts.
Her greatest joy, however, has been raising her three daughters—Shauna (21), Kallie (18), and Layla (14). Over the past decade, much of her free time has been spent in gym bleachers cheering them on through competitive volleyball. As that chapter begins to close, Charli is excited to see what’s ahead for each of them (though she’s still working on convincing at least one to become an accountant!).
