At DZA, we’re proud to spotlight the talented people who make our firm what it is. Today, we are introducing Amber Vindasius, one of our Senior Accountants. Her expertise with audits and reimbursement, along with her dedication to clients and community, make her a standout member of our team.
A Career That Found Her
Amber didn’t set out to become an accountant. In fact, she once imagined herself as a teacher or social worker. After deciding that social work was not the right fit, Amber took some random classes. One was an accounting course with a great professor, sparking a passion that stuck. That spark grew into a fulfilling career where Amber now specializes in reimbursement, particularly for PPS hospitals.
Finding Joy in Connection
While Amber enjoys the technical side of her work, what she values most is the people. “Working for an independently owned firm means a lot to me. I love the ‘small town’ feel that DZA has. Everyone knows everyone else, and are willing to help each other out whenever needed, both with coworkers and clients.” she says.
Amber also values the firm’s flexibility and support in professional development, which allow her to thrive at work without sacrificing her roles as a wife, mother, and friend. That balance, she says, is part of what makes DZA’s culture so unique.
A Voice at the DZA CAH Seminar
Amber has spoken at the DZA CAH Seminar, covering the basics of Medicare Cost Reports (MCR) and why accuracy is crucial. She’s passionate about ensuring clients understand how reimbursement works, especially for CAHs, where reporting days significantly impact reimbursement outcomes. The seminar also allowed Amber to step back into public speaking for the first time in many years, and she is happy that it was about an important topic to her. For Amber, the seminar is also about connection—seeing clients face-to-face, sharing insights, and, as she admits with a smile, enjoying the food.
Life Beyond the Numbers
Outside of work, Amber embraces the outdoors and community. Living near Canfield Mountain in Coeur d’Alene gives her access to miles of hiking trails, while Upper Priest Lake is a favorite camping and boating destination with her family. Gardening, hiking, working out, and reading fuel her, while volunteering with Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho fulfills her commitment to giving back.
Her home is full of life, too, with her husband Adam, daughter Mya, “adopted” exchange student Amalie, two dogs, a cat, and even a snake. And for fun? Don’t give Amber a puzzle or LEGO set unless you’re ready to see it finished in one sitting.
A Grounded Outlook
Amber lives by a favorite quote from John Muir: “Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.” It’s a fitting motto for someone who balances professional expertise with a love for nature, community, and connection.
At DZA, we’re grateful for Amber’s dedication and the difference she makes every day for her clients, colleagues, and community. To contact Amber, please email avindasius@dza.cpa.
